Two New York investigations will continue after he leaves office and the Trump Organization will need to avert a potential cash crunch caused by looming debt maturities at the firm’s real estate holdings. Personal guarantees Mr. Trump made on some of the organization’s debt add urgency to shoring up its financial position.

The organization also has been considering selling its Seven Springs estate outside of New York City, The Wall Street Journal previously reported. When elected, he turned over management of the business to his sons Eric and Donald Jr. while keeping ownership.

“He won’t be able to help himself,” longtime friend and business partner Phil Roughing previously told the Journal. Republican spending at Trump properties has topped $23 million since 2015 compared with less than $200,000 in the five years prior, according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission data by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Other properties have fared better, including the two office towers in San Francisco and Manhattan in which Mr. Trump owns a minority stake alongside Tornado Realty Trust. Tornado now says it is considering selling the buildings, known as 555 California Street and 1290 Avenue of the Americas, and people involved say potential deals could include the Trump Organization’s stakes in the properties.

The Trump family began exploring a sale of its rights to the hotel before the coronavirus hit, and people familiar with the situation say that while there has been significant interest from possible buyers, the pandemic has delayed any transaction. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., a Democrat, has been pursuing years of Mr. Trump ’s financial records, and says criminal tax fraud and falsification of business records are among the laws investigators believe may have been broken.

Mr. Trump ’s lawyers have sought to block a subpoena for the records, arguing the request was over broad and issued in bad faith. Another investigation, by New York state’s Attorney General Letitia James, also a Democrat, is examining whether Mr. Trump inflated asset values to obtain loans and get other economic and tax benefits.

But Eric Trump said in an interview this summer that growing internationally would be a key focus when his father left office. On the other hand, he said, China’s government wouldn’t block Mr. Trump from doing business there, and instead may see an opportunity to make him an ally.

The dispute pitted the Trump Organization against Belgian entrepreneur Axel Goethals, who convinced the European Union Intellectual Property Office that Mr. Trump ’s limited business in Europe didn’t justify him maintaining an array of trademarks. “This will have absolutely no impact on our ability to do any business going forward,” said Trump Organization lawyer Alan Garden.

The video obtained by CNBC features Donald Jr.'s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle saying she hopes Vice President Mike Pence has “the courage or the brains to do the right thing” and block the confirmation of Joe Biden as president by Congress. It also shows Eric Trump, Donald Jr.'s brother, being congratulated for his birthday that same day.

“Guys, getting ready to go out there,” Donald Jr. says on the video, which appears to have been streamed online from his phone in a tented area during the rally, outside the White House. “Just awesome patriots who are sick of the bulls---,” Donald Jr. says as the Laura Iranian song “Gloria” can be heard blaring from outside.

Later, during a speech of more than an hour, the president made false claims about alleged ballot fraud swindling him out of an electoral victory over Biden. Trump also had urged the crowd to help him “fight” Biden's confirmation as the winner, and to march to Congress after the rally.

When the crowd did so, thousands of people swarmed around the Capitol complex, and shoved past Capitol police to swarm through the halls of Congress, occupying the Senate chamber and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office, among others lawmakers' offices. Another Capitol police officer died Thursday after being hit by a rioter with a fire extinguisher.

Three other people died during the melee, which has led to calls for Trump to be removed from office, less than two weeks before his term ends. Before he spoke, Donald Jr.'s video pans around the backstage area, where a woman who appeared to be White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany smiled as she took a photo of television monitors showing the crowd outside.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows then appears behind him, broadly grinning and giving a thumbs-up to the camera. “Mark Meadows, an actual fighter, one of the few, a real fighter,” Donald Jr. says, a nod to the fact that his father had lost support from many congressional Republicans, and his own vice president, Pence, in his legally doomed effort to block Biden from taking office.

Donald Jr. then pans the camera to capture his sister Ivanka Trump, who is a senior White House advisor, who smiles and waves at him. He's an old, old broken down man,” Donald Jr. adds in a joking voice, as the brothers playfully tussled with each other.
