Kenya is a country of many landscapes, ranging from coastlines washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean to arid Savannah and snow-capped mountains. Elsewhere, the weather is split into rainy and dry seasons rather than summer, fall, winter, and spring.

Kenya's weather is dictated by monsoon winds, which help to make the high temperatures of the coast more bearable. The winds also influence the country's rainy seasons, the longest of which lasts from April to June.

Nairobi is situated in Kenya's Central Highlands region and enjoys the pleasant weather for most of the year. The sunniest time of year is December to March, while June to September is cooler and often more overcast.

Located on Kenya's south coast, the popular coastal city of Mombasa enjoys consistent temperatures that remain hot throughout the year. While the humidity levels are high on the coast, ocean breezes prevent the heat from becoming uncomfortable.

Mombasa's climate is comparable with that of other coastal destinations, including Lamp, Vilify, and Tatami. The best time to travel Northern Kenyan highlights like Lake Turkey, and Similar National Park is during the Southern Hemisphere winter (June through August).

At this time, the plains are covered with lush green grass, providing ample grazing for the wildebeest, zebra and other antelope of the annual Great Migration. At 17,057 feet, Mount Kenya's lofty summit is perennially capped with snow.

Typically, early mornings on the mountain are sunny and dry, with clouds often forming by midday. It is possible to hike Mount Kenya throughout the year, but conditions are most accessible during the dry season.

Like most of the country, Mount Kenya's dry seasons last from July to October, and from December to March. While June can still be quite wet, the other months are great for visiting wildlife and the Masai Mara National Reserve.

July and August are also prime time for beach vacations, thanks to the warm-but-not-too-hot temperatures (typically around 80 degrees Fahrenheit) and light rain. October and November can be good months for seaside vacations, as long as you don't mind the occasional intense rain.

Migrating birds in the Great Rift Valley and Aberdeen National Park are another draw for visitors. Anthony is a renowned Africa expert and author of the Lonely Planet guide to Kenya.

Many of Kenya ’s parks have a climate comparable to this, including the Masai Mara. Abseil, Menu, Hamburg and Save are at a lower altitude and, therefore, warmer.

The highlands receive a great deal of rain and are very cold in the evening and morning. It is advisable to pack warm clothing, as morning game drives in open vehicles will be cold.

The best time to visit Nairobi is from June to August when the average high is around 23 °C (73 °F) and rainfall is at its lowest (although the sky is often cloudy). The period between January to February is also a good time to visit Nairobi as it is sunny and warm, with an average high of 27 °C (81 °F).

In regard to rainfall, it is not particularly abundant, as it only amounts to about 1,000 millimeters (40 inches) per year, however, there are two rainy seasons: from April to June and October to November. Masai Mara is an expansive game reserve renowned for its wealth of wildlife and the Great Migration of wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year.

The wet season is from November to May with April being the wettest month, does result in beautiful scenery, cheaper rates and newborn animal sightings. It shares borders with Ethiopia in the north, Sudan in the northwest, Uganda in the west, Tanzania in the south and Somalia in the northeast.

The country is divided into four regions: the arid deserts of the north; the Savannah lands of the south; the fertile lowlands along the coast; and highlands in the west, where the capital Nairobi is situated. Northwest of Nairobi runs the Rift Valley, dotted with lakes and containing the town of Nauru, while further west the Aberdeen National Park is overlooked by Kenya ’s highest peak, and Africa’s second tallest mountain after Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya (5,199 m/17,057ft), which also is a national park.
