Amazon finally joined Netflix and Hulu today, bringing an official PrimeVideo app to Windows 10. Initially spotted by Italian blog Aggiornamenti Lucia, the app is currently available to download at the Microsoft Store.

Coming to the streaming service Amazon Prime Video for the month of July are plenty of movies, TV shows, and even some original programming to keep you entertained. That day you can watch the horror movie The Eye, which is an American remake of the Chinese cult classic.
Jessica Alba stars as a blind woman who gets an eye transplant and begins to see ghosts. The followup film is directed by the Pang Brothers and is a story about a pregnant woman who gains the ability to see ghosts.
PrimeVideo is Amazon's answer to Netflix and Hulu, delivering a sizeable mix of original, exclusive, and licensed content, ranging from 4K HDR blockbusters to British murder mysteries, via mobile devices, smart TVs, streaming boxes, and in your web browser. With the company dropping $250 million just for the rights to a Lord of the Rings' television show, it's definitely serious about PrimeVideo's future.
When you tap on a movie or TV show, Amazon presents you with a lot of info, but it's sensibly arranged to avoid overwhelming you with minutiae. Some basics are right up front: an IMDb rating (Amazon purchased the company in 1998), MPA rating if applicable, a customer score with the number of votes, and buttons to watch or resume, download for offline viewing, or add and remove from your watch list.
Then below that, you'll see portraits of the principal cast members and the director, all of which you can tap on to get biographical info, other movies they've been in, and even trivia and quotes pulled from IMDb. Those would be a nice addition for parents (though Amazon Prime does have an entire section just for kids, which we'll talk about in a minute).
The only notable limitation is that you can't have the same piece of downloaded content on two different devices at the same time, because those distribution rights can get expensive. Your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, smart TV, and game console should all have an app you can download to stream these digital copies.
In the case of PrimeVideo, Amazon goes one step further and puts your Movies Anywhere collection right into its own app, in the Library section. Here, you can stream to your device, download the film for offline viewing, add it to your watch list, or play the trailer.
It has some legitimately great stuff, from classics like Reading Rainbow to recent winners such as Mortimer Gibbons. Commercial-free Hulu (mostly free, anyway) will run you $12 a month, but it's not as directly comparable because it can pull in much more recent content.
This doesn't guarantee quality, but it tends to maintain a threshold of viability and is a generally reliable entry point into what a streaming service has to offer. If you want to see popular TV, you have to keep scrolling past Gaming Shorts, Because You Watched , Comedy Shorts, Recently Added Movies, Originals Coming Soon, Recommended Mystery & Thrillers TV, and Top Rated Movies.
If you go over to the Originals tab, the Coming Soon section is right at the top, so Amazon is prioritizing the stuff that you can't actually watch yet. If you're in the mood for casual browsing, Netflix arguably offers a more intuitive experience, but PrimeVideo has the advantage in total cost and kid-friendly content.

And when it comes to streaming services, Amazon Prime Video continues to offer a respectable library of HDR titles. Primarily consisting of the provider's own assortment of original series and movies, Amazon HDR support is available on virtually all current gen 4K HDR compatible smart TVs and media players with a Prime subscription.
According to the company, all HDR content is available in HDR10+ via compatible Samsung 4K TV models and will default to that format on supported displays. Unlike some other streaming services, however, Amazon Prime Video doesn't make it quite as easy to find HDR or Dolby Atmos content through its platform on certain apps and TVs.
Though scrolling down the smart TV app's “Homepage” does reveal Ultra HD categories for shows and movies, users have to select each title individually to see if they also support HDR. In other words, there might actually be some HDR titles currently not included in any of the app's sub-categories -- essentially making them impossible to find.
