Do Amazon Returns Need Original Packaging

Does anyone know if Amazon requires buyers to return an item in the original carton/ packaging ? So if the buyer doesn’t have the original carton returning the item is almost impossible.

It was 3rd party FBA, very large, multi packaged and required freight delivery. Rather than have me return it Amazon refunded me have the price I paid.

A buyer doesn’t need a UPC, we get a return slip that has the item’s barcode on it. I’ve returned baby clothes after they shrunk majorly in the wash- no UPC.

I think Amazon would try to offer a partial refund rather than pay return shipping costs. If the motor broke it would be going back, even if I had to tape trash bags around in.

For large freight like a chair Amazon would probably offer a partial refund but if the buyer wants to be made whole, they could just tape Kroger bags around it to return it. I have received plenty of “Unfulfillable returned inventory without boxes” Amazon just puts it in a poly-bag and ships it back to me.

Plus I suggest that you include in your bullets that to save money in case of return, buyers should hold on to the expensive custom shipping carton. I’m just trying to word it in such a way that reinforces the buyer is responsible for obtaining a shipper at their cost (and now they know it will be hard to find one, as well as expensive), while making you look like the good guy who really wants his customers to be happy.

Choose the order and select Return or Replace Items. For items sold from an Amazon seller, you'll see Submit return request.

The Amazon seller reviews return requests before issuing a refund or replacement. If you don't receive a response within two business days, you can submit an A-to-z Guarantee claim.

To make sure that you receive the correct refund, don't include items from multiple orders or shipments in the same box. If you selected a label-free, box-free return location, you don't have to package your item in a shipping box.

After completing the steps in the returns process, you'll receive a QR code. Bring the item you want to return and the digital QR code to the drop-off location.

MMM, there are no “free” supplies for first class mail. You can levy an up to 50% restocking fee for item not returned in original condition.

Thats because they’re not entitled to one at all, they are given the right to inspect shop purchases before they buy as they do not enjoy any ‘distant selling’ protection. Based upon a buyers' willingness to buy from me unseen, the ease in which I generate sales compared to a traditional shop, the relatively few returns we get and then those which are damaged beyond refurbishment…sorry, I’m willing to show a little more tolerance and flexibility than you are in the name of good customer relations and account protection.

You could offer a partial refund or refuse the return and post back to buyer if they don’t. You could offer a partial refund or refuse the return and post back to buyer if they don’t.

Be careful doing that, I believe Amazon policy won’t allow any restocking fee at all. I know, but when you look at the way Amazon operates you can’t really defend a partial refund.

I would assess the market price for items that are returned not complete as sent (including external packaging) OR deduct the amount of money it would reduce the refund to cover to replace the items and sell again as new and complete. I have never had a problem with this with Amazon if the customer has complained when returning items after removing clothing tags or throwing away or damaging the presentational box.

Customers also usually understand that they would not like to have received an item that had clearly been returned before and without the external presentational parking. We send images of the product to the buyer if it is returned in a state we can no longer sell as new.

They would not present items to a shop in a distressed condition and expect a full refund but think that Amazon is a large and impersonal entity, not a collection of smaller sellers, and it does not matter if the company suffers a loss. This simple statement has helped us defend partial refunds and A-Z claims successfully.

You need to manage it with your supplier as you see fit, businesses need to be flexible even if they’ve got right on their side. Packaging itself isn’t worth arguing about, but missing accessories is in my opinion.

We all know which way Amazon will go, but if buyer has a previous history or lots of refunds they might not go down A-Z route. Agreed, it’s far easier to sell online and ultimately taking some things on the chin is worthwhile and will generate more sales over time. Only had one time when a product arrived back damaged, told the customer to go speak to Amazon as we’ve provided evidence it was not returned in a fair condition, and she never got back to us.

You may wish to foster client attitudes that encourage abuse of the system for the, sake of goodwill. I don't want customers that become complacent about their responsibilities to behave in a responsible way but expect me to deliver on my obligations.

I’ve received goods where I cannot fathom out how to get the box emptied never mind get it all back in. Like yourself and cram, I’ve adopted an ‘it goes with the territory’ approach, it saves a lot of time, grief and contrary to what others might think, improves profitability.

In a shop the salesperson is responsible for unpacking and hands the widget over to me for appraisal. My own personal return policy is that everything must be returned (including the exterior packaging with all the postage labels attached and this must be unadulterated in any way, so I can reclaim the VAT I pay out when I send the item) meaning that they have to then find another wrapper to put it in.

Because I forewarn people, they tend not to ever suffer deductions from their refunds and I do not really run into problems because I have been open and upfront about all the potential issues which may arise. Some packaging is impossible to send back in initial condition.

Can think of a few ornaments where packaging becomes damaged just taking from the box if haven’t the knack. In a shop the salesperson is responsible for unpacking and hands the widget over to me for appraisal.

You might want to brush up on Amazon return policy and adjust yours to meet the requirements of the site you are selling on, by the way. I bought this remote control car and I couldn't open the box without tearing it apart.

So I tore the box but not that badly(I still have it) and I played with it for like a few hours. Use any box you want, it should take less than a week if it was sold from Amazon and not a third-party seller.

Yeah, if you're returning it because you don't want it any more you can use whatever box you have. Aww, I probably won't return it then, the shipping was crazy though, 4 bucks is 50% of the actual item.

Even the shipping, but here's the weird part, they already refunded my money and added it to my Gift Card Balance but I haven't even sent my package back yet! So did they make a mistake or something, oh and also, this guy came by my house to pick up my package, and he gave me a return label, I told him my package wasn't ready yet, and he said to just slap on the return label and drop off my package at a UPS store.

I mean the money is already added to my Gift Card Balance. If you believe it’s the thought that counts, then you won’t be offended if the recipient of a present you've given can't use it for whatever reason.

Some retailers have flexible return and exchange policies all year long, and others are a bit more strict. With COVID-related shipping delays creating problems, most stores are offering more generous return guidelines for holiday purchases.

According to the 2020 Deloitte holiday retail survey, only 32 percent of shoppers consider return policies when buying gifts. This includes Amazon Lockers, which can often be found at Whole Foods and Walmart, as well as UPS stores and Kohl's.

If the item can’t be found, you can get a refund for store credit at its current price, minus 20 percent. And due to COVID-19 restrictions, Bed Bath & Beyond is only accepting in-store returns in locations open to the public, excluding any curbside-only stores.

Costco There's no time limit on returns and no receipt necessary, except for a few items, including tires, batteries, cigarettes, and alcohol. Electronics, including computers, TVs, major appliances, cameras, tablets, and more can still be returned, but there's a 90-day window that starts from the date the item is received.

Without a receipt, you're eligible for a gift card worth 50 percent of the original sale price. Returns can be made in-store or via the mail (the company will provide a shipping label) whether the item was purchased online or in person.

Home Depot Most items are eligible for returns for up to 180 days after purchase. They must be new and unopened, and as long as you have proof of purchase, you can get a refund by the original payment method, in cash, or as store credit.

If you don't have a receipt, try to make the return within 30 days and the company may be able to find your purchase in its system if you used a debit or credit card for the transaction. You get only 30 days to return area rugs, furniture, gas-powered equipment, and consumer electronics.

The same time frame holds if your order arrives damaged or defective. JCPenney If you have a receipt, the company accepts returns and exchanges anytime, except for appliances, furniture, fine jewelry, and electronics.

If you need to make a return after one year, L.L. Bean will work with you to reach a fair solution if a product was defective in any way. For returns made within 90 days of purchase, a full refund will be issued by the original payment method.

If there's no receipt and no other proof of purchase, you may still be eligible for a partial refund at Lands' End's discretion. As long as you have proof of purchase, Lowe's will refund in cash, by the original payment method, or as store credit.

When no record of a purchase can be found, Lowe's may still be able to provide in-store credit for the current selling price. This includes TVs, major appliances, liquid paint, and outdoor power equipment.

If you receive an item that's damaged or defective, you have only three days to contact the company to document it. Shipping costs for a purchase are nonrefundable, and items must be new, unused, and with original tags.

No receipts are required, there are no time limits, and no original tags needed (except for special occasion dresses). Without a receipt, Orris will provide a gift card valued at the lowest price for the item in the last 90 days.

The retailer provides free shipping on returns, and you can bring your items to any location as well. The company may honor returns on items that have been opened, damaged, or don't have a receipt, but it doesn't guarantee this.

If you have a Target Red Card, the return window is extended an additional 30 days. For the holidays, the 30-day return window (15 days for Apple products) begins Dec. 26 for electronics and entertainment items purchased between Oct. 1 and Dec. 25.

Barnes & Noble For online and in-store purchases, you have 30 days from the date you received the item to get a return, but you'll need a receipt or invoice. The store requires proof of purchase and has a 15 percent restocking fee on certain items, including drones and some digital cameras and lenses, if the original packaging has been opened.

Items (except major appliances and holiday products) bought between Oct. 13, 2020, and Jan. 2, 2021, can be returned through Jan. 16, 2021. Forever 21 You typically must make returns within 30 days of purchase online or in-store to get an exchange or a refund.

Due to an increased volume of sales and returns, the company states on its website that refunds processed online can take up to three weeks. If you're a member of the free Shop Your Way program, you'll have 45 days to request a refund or exchange.

New egg This online seller of electronics and other products guarantees a refund on most items returned new and unopened within 30 days of purchase. It refunds 100 percent of the purchase price of items returned within 30 days, but only if they're defective or unopened.

For opened notebooks and desktop PCs, tablets, and TVs, that goes down to 75 percent. Wayfair Most items can be returned within 30 days, provided they're unopened and in the original condition.

Mattresses come with a 100-night guarantee, and Wayfair typically provides return pickups for large items. If you try to return an item and the original packaging isn’t intact, merchants may impose a restocking fee (often 15 percent of the purchase price or more).

Other products, such as computer software, CDs, and DVDs, generally aren't returnable once their packaging has been opened, unless they're defective. If you didn't get a gift receipt (and you don't want to ask the giver for the original), you may be eligible for store credit, though it may be in the amount of the lowest price the item sold for recently.

Big merchants usually allow up to 90 days for most items to be returned, but they may have far shorter periods for certain goods. For items purchased online, note whether the merchant also has walk-in store locations and allows in-person returns.

That way, you can avoid repacking the item and going to the post office, as well as paying return shipping costs. It's also important to check whether you've purchased an item from a third-party seller, because they may have different return policies than the retailer.

Some chains, including Best Buy and Victoria's Secret, use computerized return-authorization systems to detect abuse. So you may be asked to show your driver's license or other government-issued ID when you return an item in person.
