Last year, Amazon also brought on small-business partners and bought 20,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans for them to use for delivery. These two programs are part of Amazon's larger move to grow its own logistics network, relying less on other carriers like UPS, the U.S.
But drivers in less-congested regions, including Arizona, Kentucky and New Jersey, told CNBC that they often finish deliveries early, making the pace relaxed and the hourly pay much higher, because you're paid for the full block no matter how long it takes you. Other drivers told CNBC they had safety concerns, from the Flex app encouraging distracted driving, to a lack of Amazon -branded clothing that leads to confrontations with confused customers.
We communicate with delivery partners regarding safety topics, including safe loading practices. CNBC spoke to a total of 11 Flex drivers around the country to find out what it's really like to deliver for Amazon, and how it compares to other gig jobs like driving for Uber, Lyft, Postmates or DoorDash.
When you hunt for the perfect side hustle, potential earnings are a big factor in your decision to apply or look for other options. No matter how great driving for Amazon may sound, you need to make good use of your time if you want to meet your financial goals.

That being said, the precise amount you make per week or month will depend on how many shifts you’re willing to work, as well as how many amazons will give you. Amazon doesn’t want this, so they put the above caps in place (and phrase driver job titles carefully).

That being said, Amazon Flex can be a good strategy to supplement an existing car payment if you just work for the service a few hours a week on the side. This means more frequent maintenance and a lower overall life span for your vehicle, which can cut into your earnings significantly.
Because you’re an independent contractor, Amazon doesn’t withhold any taxes on the money they pay. It’s impossible to give exact numbers for the above expenses, as they will vary based on where you live, what you drive and your age.
Amazon Flex pays its contractors quite well, compared to food delivery services and similar companies in the gig economy. Delivery drivers for brands like Postmates and DoorDash often make less than minimum wage, at least before tips, due to the fact that they aren’t guaranteed to get any requests when they’re driving around.
However, it’s important to recognize the program does not guarantee you’ll always get enough shifts to meet 40 hours. There are no processing fees involved to get your documents reviewed, and even your background check will be covered by the company.
Once you’re approved, you can make money without any extra investments, since your smartphone is really the only tool you need and uniforms are not required. If you want to maximize your earnings by driving when demand is highest and the most delivery blocks are available, make sure to keep an eye out for shifts during the holiday season.

They will change your hours right after you complete your hiring paperwork. Flexible schedule but only part-time or independent contractor positions.

Unless you live close to the warehouse facility and own your own van you will have no work/life balance and not make much money. Beware of recruitment agencies who offer you a vehicle.
You will be expected to deliver around 150 parcels a day which is impractical and if you don’t manage it someone will help you but it gets taken from your pay. Remember, working for yourself isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Overall it is a temporary position, revolving door, pay is decent compared to customer service jobs, but compared to volume of work versus UPS, FedEx and USPS you are definitely underpaid for the amount of work you do. They expect you to be out on your route by 2pm, and deliver 100+-200+ stops in areas that close by 5pm and it obviously gets dark within 4-6hrs and by 4hrs have to take mandatory break for 30min which only slows you down more.
