We’ve been made aware of an automated scam phone call designed to trick Amazon Prime customers into connecting with a fraudulent ‘account manager’. It’s similar in tactics to the ‘ Visa fraud department ‘ call, which also instructs victims to ‘press 1’ to be connected.

More than a year since we first published this warning, and despite our efforts so far to see action taken, we know that the Amazon Prime scam call is still happening. Recently published further evidence of similar remote access scams that have the potential to wipe out a victim’s life savings, including Amazon Prime impersonators who stole £6,900 from a woman in her 60s.

We’ll now be taking your responses to the phone companies and Amazon itself to demonstrate just how widespread this scam call is, and how it’s impacting on people’s lives. This Amazon Prime scam call has been frequently posing a threat to the public for too long.

To find out exactly what you need to watch out for, I spoke with Craig, a member of the public who received the call on his landline earlier this month. This would suggest that the scam is targeting members of the public at random, rather than Prime customers directly.

One of the ways Amazon attempts to combat the wave of lost and stolen packages is through their A-to-Z Guarantee. Let’s first assume that you ’ve recently purchased an item from a third-party seller who isn’t covered by the Fulfilled by Amazon protection.

A seller without this means that there is no package tracking available through your Amazon account portal. So any seller could go rogue, charge you for the product, and claim your package is on its way when in reality it could have never been shipped at all.

The mandate set forth by the guarantee states that any item purchased from a seller through the Amazon website is eligible for compensation of up to $2,500. You will first need to contact the seller through your Amazon account and provide them with 48 hours to respond.

On the “Transaction Details” link you will see an option to “Contact Seller.” You must give the seller two calendar days to respond. If the item arrives broken, defective, or misrepresented, you ’ll need to file a claim within 14 days of when you get it.

Before you begin to panic, take a look at some of the more common issues you could face when dealing with Amazon sellers and how best to correct the situation before going to extreme measures. Avoiding Fake Sellers This is definitely one of the more widespread problems happening over at Amazon ’s official website.

It has become so easy for fake sellers to rip people off via fraudulent methods in recent years and Amazon, as well as its customers, have seen their fair share of this worrying trend. The problem is that a criminal can easily open up a new Amazon seller account and begin peddling popular items for sale.

It literally only takes a few seconds when using Amazon ’s seller’s platform that it can be done with ease. What happens is that they’ll list items for less money than other retailers are selling them for in order to get more notice.

This means that the purchase is accepted and the funds for the product are released to their account. By providing an estimated delivery date of four weeks, the shady merchant can beat Amazon ’s two-week payment cycle and vanish before buyers begin to complain about the product never showing up.

Luckily, it’s actually quite easy to avoid fake sellers trying to make a quick buck off of your misery. Feedback scores tend to be a great way to tell if the seller is trustworthy and not out to steal your money.
