You find a product you like, promote it to others, and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.” In other words, when you recommend a product to an audience, you get rewarded when you help drive sales to Amazon.

Update your Amazon links Add your new affiliate tracking information (commonly called your “Tracking IDs”) to every Amazon link to identify the traffic as yours which will ensure you get rewarded for sales you help drive. Get Paid Keep doing what you do best, and as your audience makes purchases through your affiliate links you will begin to earn commissions in your Amazon Associates account(s).
You can review reports of your account’s performance at the same place you signed up for each of the affiliate programs, the Amazon Associates Central dashboard. Amazon pays a commission or bounty on referred sales.
A bounty is a set fee for referring someone who completes a certain action, like signing up for a Prime account, after clicking your affiliate link. Before 2017, there was a tiered system from approximately 4% to 8.5% based on your sales volume.
In March 2017, Amazon rolled out a significant change to their commission payouts that are detailed here. More recently, Amazon has started rolling out a more complex commission structure whereby your payout is based on what specifically was recommended, and what was purchased.
While limited in its rollout, this overhaul also includes commission rate changes based off of where you link to. Top affiliates are making six to seven figures a month from the Amazon associates program.
With recent changes, payout percentages vary by the category of the product recommended and span 0% to 10% commission. These rates change frequently, so make sure to consult the Amazon Associates Program Standard Fee Schedule to get the latest.
“We will pay Standard Program Fees and Special Program Fees in the default currency for an Amazon Site approximately 60 days following the end of each calendar month in which they were earned.” So the commissions you made during January would be paid out in late March / early April.
This roughly two-month delay is to account for returns and allow time for other items you recommend being purchased. As a reminder, once someone adds an item you recommend into their cart, they have 89 days to complete the purchase and still earn you a commission.
As a result, you may see some commissions paid out months after someone in your audience clicks your affiliate link. Three (3) payment options are currently offered: direct deposit, gift card, and check.
There are minimums and processing fees associated that vary by program. If you plan to use international programs, you might find Payoneer and Cue links helpful and save you time depositing your affiliate commissions.
Pro-tip: If you’re not in Japan and opt to be paid in Amazon .co.JP gift cards, make sure to check out these tips on spending Amazon Japan gift cards internationally. When an affiliate link is clicked, it starts a timer called a “cookie window”.
The cookie window is a fancy way of saying “the time period over which you can earn a commission on items added to cart”. 24-hour window after a click where you can get credit for items added to a shopping cart.
Remember, a broken link has a 0% chance of earning a commission, so the health of your affiliate links is very important. Also, worth noting, Amazon ’s Operating Agreement states that you can’t link to pages or deals that are out of date.
Apply to additional Amazon Associates programs As you build your audience and click traffic grows, consider applying to additional Amazon Associates programs. Look at the global distribution of your audience, and chose the 2nd biggest country/ region to apply to next.
Hint: keep an eye on your site/channel’s analytics to see where people are coming from and quickly identify your next biggest target. With a link management platform, like Genius link, you simply add your new program ID into your account, and click traffic for that country will automatically be affiliated for every link you’ve ever built in your account.
Unfortunately, Amazon often closes accounts that haven’t generated a sale within the first few months of being set up. Because of this, we encourage you to have already done some work building an audience and recommending some products before you sign up for the Amazon affiliate program.
Once you start getting close to this benchmark you are probably ready to sign up for the Amazon affiliate program. Amazon ’s compliance team must be able to access your posted affiliate links.
Be sure to add all social media channels to the “Websites and Mobile Apps” section of the Associates application. Technically, you could probably have more than one account per country/storefront, but previously this was frowned upon and wasn’t helpful as there was a higher payout based on volume.
Let’s step back a bit, for those of you who didn’t know, and talk about the 24-hour cookie and the 90-day extension of it. The standard Amazon affiliate link gives you 24 hours for a customer to make a purchase, in order for you to earn a commission.
This means that if a customer clicks your link and orders ANYTHING (almost anything), within a 24-hour window, you’ll earn a commission on those items. It’s a universal cookie, meaning that even if the customer clicks through your link to view a baby stroller, but ends up buying a new kitchen set, some dumbbells, and a ribbon for their dog, you’ll get paid for all of those items.
To make up for this, Amazon will extend your cookie by another 89 days if the customer adds a product to their cart. In other words, if they add it to the cart and then leave Amazon, you’ve got 89 more days to hope they come back and finish checking out.
However, I don’t believe it’s always best to send customers straight to the add to cart button, otherwise, Amazon would make these standard. While the 90-day cookie is great, there are a lot of myths that I’ve seen about it, even from some people selling products that utilize it.
If ANY customer visits Amazon through ANY special link and adds a product to their cart, you get an 89-day extension. This means that the normal Amazon links you are already using can still earn you a 90-day cookie, and you’ve likely already had it happen.
The difference here is that those themes and plugins make it easier to get a special “add to cart” link, which prompts users to add the product to their cart, and increases the chances of a 90-day cookie. A cookie is something which sits in a customer’s browser and earns you a commission when they make a purchase.
Basically, if a customer adds something to their cart, then once the cookie has expired (24 hours after they first clicked your link), you still have 89 days for them to complete their purchase before you earn a commission. This means that even if they return to Amazon from a different browser or device, and complete their checkout, you still get the commission.
Less than 89 days later, they return to Amazon, add 5 more products to their cart, and check out all 8 items. If it worked how some people said it did, then customers would indefinitely extend the 90-day period forever by continuously adding things to their cart and coming back later.
While you would think on the surface level, that the 90 day “cookie” results in higher commissions, it’s not necessarily true. It’s pretty clear that some customers will find this move deceptive, and the disconnect between your review article and them being prompted to add something to cart could have the opposite effect.
Additionally, Amazon is well known for its ability to convert people, having investing billions of dollars in this very process, so for many situations, the normal affiliate link will do the job just fine. As well as testing your links to see what results in higher conversions, it’s well worth considering your customer buying habits.
Of course, if your Amazon site is set up like an e-commerce site, where customers can add items to a cart on your store, before going to Amazon to check out, then I would say this is an instance where you ALWAYS want to use the 90 day add to cart feature. Remember though that the “add to cart” link still works the same as a normal affiliate link, so if they don’t immediately add the product to their cart, but shop around and make a purchase within 24 hours, you do still get paid.
How to include AmazonAffiliatelinks on a blog or website without impacting your editorial integrity. There are a couple of ways of including Affiliate links on your page without letting them appear too promotional.
For example, you could link to books you have recently read, or to records that you enjoy listening to. Another possibility is writing a review for products, weighing their advantages and disadvantages. A comparative test of several products also helps inspire trust with your visitors. Another way of creating an opportunity to include Affiliate links in a non-promotional context, is to organize a poll for your readers to participate in.
Please click on “contact us” located in the top right-hand corner in Associates Central and complete the form. However, it is a good idea to set up a tracking ID for each of your sites to see which of your websites generates what part of your proceeds. In the event that you operate websites in different languages for different countries, you will have to be signed up for the AmazonAffiliate Program in each of the respective countries.
Amazon permits the usage of AmazonAffiliatelinks on social networks in accordance with the Operating Agreement. Do not simply advertise for a product. The new Site Stripe feature has made it easy to directly share and publish links to the Amazon shop on Facebook and Twitter.
However, if you are a non-UK resident, we will need your tax information in order to process payments when you’ve earned a referral income. That depends on how you plan to use them. Text links have the advantage of not looking like obvious commercials, which attracts more clicks.
These load information dynamically, so that a change in price would be immediately adopted in the Widget. Often a combination of the two proves effective as well, offering the visitor more than one instance that affords clicking. You may earn a commission income for any qualifying items placed in a customer’s shopping cart during a 24-hour window.
This window begins at the time a visitor clicks through your Associates link. However, the 24-hour window will close if the customer submits his/her order or re-enters Amazon .co.UK through another Associate’s link. Once the window is closed, any additional purchases will not earn commission incomes for your Associates account.
If the customer returns to Amazon .co.UK through your Associates link, this will generate a new 24-hour window. As long as the item was added to the shopping cart during the 24-hour window, you will earn a commission income on this item even if the actual order is placed several weeks later. In any case, you will not earn commission incomes for (a) any purchase that, after expiration of the applicable 24-hour window, is added to a customer’s shopping cart, purchased by a customer via Amazon ’s 1-Click feature, or is streamed or downloaded by a customer, even if the customer previously followed your Associates link to Amazon .co.UK or (b) a purchase order that is cancelled or returned.
The Operating Agreement requires Associates to keep their account information up to date. Here you can change your contact information, update your site profile, modify your payment settings, add users to your account, and more.
However, your account will be marked “’dormant” if your amazon affiliate link has not generated any traffic for 3 years. You can use the gray Amazon Associates toolbar (also called Site Stripe) on the top edge of the browser window to create an Affiliate link for the currently visited shop page.
You will need to be signed in to Amazon Associates for the Site Stripe to appear, and then visit the respective product page. Click on “Link to this page” on the Site Stripe and the Affiliate link will appear for you to copy and paste. You should tell your visitors that you receive a commission income if they make a purchase through one of your affiliate links, but you must comply with the EU Associates Program Operating Agreement (for example only, you cannot offer any person or entity any consideration or incentive for using the links or imply sponsorship or enforcement by a person or company).
Your commission incomes from the AmazonAffiliate program are dependent on several factors. It is essential to keep up steady traffic onto your site, since only a portion of your visitors will click on the Widgets and text links in use, and only a few of these visitors will actually make a purchase. Another factor is how you include Affiliate links or Widgets on your site. These do not have to necessarily focus on just one or several products, but can present advantages and disadvantages or work as recommendations.
Equally popular, is content that keeps the reader up to date with current deals and discounts. For a blog, it is a good idea to regularly present products that you use yourself. Several things can cause this. It could be the case that your Affiliatelinksdo not function correctly, so that visitors cannot be allocated as an Affiliate.
If you, for example, were to recommend a product that receives a lot of negative feedback in the Amazon shop, most readers won’t purchase it in the end. The same of course applies for false and unreliable information on your website. Additionally, you should check whether the linked product still exists and is available.
How can I track the amount of clicks one specific affiliate link or widget? To do this, you can simply generate a new tracking ID and assign it to only one AmazonAffiliate link on your website.
In the statistics of the different tracking IDs, you can then see which and how often each of the links were clicked and how many products were purchased through them. You should try and test different advertising styles and then see which attracts the most clicks on your website.
You should also consider testing the Favorites Widget and the Deals Widgets. It is also important to integrate the Affiliate links on your website in such a way that they are visible to your readers. In addition, it is essential that the presented Affiliate links correspond and represent the interests, needs and wishes of your target audience. For every written article you should add an AmazonAffiliate link that is directly related to the topic, as well as the needs of your readers.
A banner that is manually created in Photoshop or another image processing software is not permitted.Instead, Amazon offers a variety of different Widgets, of which some can be adjusted and modified in size and appearance.
