By BBC News Online internet reporter Mark Ward Regular Amazon customers could find that the reward for their loyalty is higher prices. But Amazon says the different discounts are due to a price testing scheme that went awry, and are not evidence of discrimination.
The news that Amazon is charging different prices for the same products came out of a discussion group on the DVD Talk Forum website. Participants to the forum found they could get different prices for more than half of the top-selling DVDs on the Amazon .com website.
DVDs affected included Mission Impossible 2, the Limited edition of Men In Black and a collected set of the Planet of the Apes' series of films. The key to the discounts seemed to be small files called cookies that many websites place on the computer of anyone visiting their site.
The implication was that Amazon was offering bigger discounts to first time visitors to tempt them back. Amazon said the prices that customers saw were assigned randomly and were not tied to cookies or past purchases.
The company regularly tests its search system, what the home page looks like, overall site design as well as product pricing. A few months ago it tried the same thing with an MP3 player, sparking outrage among the customers who ended up paying more.
As the internet and profiling technologies become more common, many expect that buying histories will make a difference to the price you pay for goods and services. Was this review helpful? Crazy place to work, not good for your mental well-being.
I feel that top management should have a greater presence on the floor to keep a hand in what is going on. It could be a great place to work if things were done correctly and professionally.
Leadership too quick to turn a blind eye as long as the job gets done. Amazon is a great place to work if you're a good worker and reach your targets they leave you alone and just let you get on with it the management and supervisors actually care for you and will help you if it's needed.
Was this review helpful? Blue badges think they can dictate to agency staff, shifts cancelled 5 hours beforehand, not a nice place at all...thankless job. Was this review helpful? I work for a company within Amazon (but run by Amazon) the weekly pay isn't near enough for the 60-70 hours a week (day rate), poor management, stupid rules (can't bring back more than 10 parcels regardless if the occupant is in or not but not allowed to leave the parcel in a safe place if it isn't stated on the system) 0.17p per mile paid (average of around £20 a day) using £30 fuel a day st the minute.
Was this review helpful? It was a great opportunity to work at Amazon. Was this review helpful? Very difficult place to work at. Physically draining and not too good for ladies.Fast-paced environment, expected to work towards their targets. Picking time-You are expected to lift heavy bags roughly between 15 kilos to 20 to the cart. Each cart is supposed to have 9 bags, and you can pick 4 or 5 routes per shift or picking time.30 minutes unpaid break time.
Unpaid break, Supervisors are mostly Europeans(so rude, and no idea of what leading is)Hard physical work, Supervisors are racist, nice to their own people(Europeans). Hard work allocated to new temp employees. Was this review helpful? I worked at amazons Harrington warehouses for 5 months.
They actually precisely time how long it has been from you leaving your workstation to you arriving in the toilet and back again. Was this review helpful? I've been working for Amazon for over a year now through a Delivery Service Partner at first I enjoyed the job but as time has gone on it has really begun to take a toll on my overall well-being (yes I am currently looking for other jobs).
I have nothing against the management of my DSP but Amazon seriously need to look at the unrealistic and unethical workload they place on their drivers. Without fail, I get 250+ parcels to deliver in a day with absolutely no time to stop and have a break.
Was this review helpful? They’re only out for themselves, shocking how bad such a big company is run. Constantly feel like you’re walking on eggshells as you’re scared to be fired on the spot.
Free hot drinks and sometimes food i.e. McDonald’s breakfast and bananas Was this review helpful? Really enjoyed my time at Amazon, coworkers and staff were brilliant individuals, couldn't work for a better company than Amazon along with PMP recruitment, was a shame I had to leave but what I gained more valuable to me than anything could possibly imagine.
Was this review helpful? Beautiful warehouse the necessary/essential needs for 100% productivity supplied. Good money and shifts pattern. Perhaps very bad management from the supervisor and area management. Rude/aggressive (verbally) and disrespect from the employees special if are new or coming through a recruitment agency. Was this review helpful? I found my time at Amazon to be more than I expected.
I found if you have happy and approachable managers it made working there a lot better Was this review helpful? Worked for 3 months for them at Don caster site through pandemic in vulnerable category as have heart condition only to be told on 2nd January that as the work has quietened down that my contract ends on 09/01/21 feel used for the Xmas rush when my contract was initially 9 months.
